SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY MAY 15 AT MARYHILL BURGH HALLS

MARYHILL Housing is to hold what’s known as a Special General Meeting at Maryhill Burgh Halls on TUESDAY 15 MAY at 6pm.

This happens only rarely when we want to make a change to our rules which requires the consultation of our shareholders members.

All housing associations operate on the basis of rules which determine how things are run.
Sometimes, these have to be amended and the purpose of the meeting is to seek your approval for this. We can only do it if enough of our Members - the people who have in the past paid £1 to join the Association - attend and give their approval.

To prepare for this and tell you what is happening we have produced a special edition of our newsletter MARYHILL NEWS exclusively for Members and this is being posted out now. It will arrive in the post week commencing May 7.

At the meeting we will seek your permission for our Rules to be registered under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014 rather than the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965. As you can see from the date, this legislation is more recent.

We are also asking for your approval on something called “Borrowing Powers”. Most housing associations borrow money from banks or building societies when it comes to things like building new homes. We also receive financial help on such work from the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council in the form of grants for which we are very grateful.

So what will happen at the meeting?

Chief Executive Bryony Willett will explain more about what we are asking you to approve. There will be a vote and if we get your permission we can enact these changes. We don’t anticipate the meeting will take very long.
Members will also hear about Maryhill’s Plans for 2018/19.

The meeting will not, in any way, affect your rent and the Annual General Meeting, which many of you attend, will take place as normal in September.

Please remember that we need a good turnout of shareholder members so do try and come along.
We will be serving a light buffet between 6 and 6.30pm prior to the meeting starting at 6.30pm and we look forward to seeing you then.
