All properties in Scotland have to meet new Fire Detection Regulations by February 2021.

This means all properties should have:

  • at least one smoke alarm installed in the room most frequently used for general day-time living purposes,

  • at least one smoke alarm in every circulation space on each storey, such as hallways and landings;

  • at least one heat alarm installed in every kitchen;

  • a long life, sealed carbon monoxide detector in all homes (where a gas supply is installed).

All alarms should be ceiling-mounted and interlinked.
