We have published a new guide to help you understand how we allocate our homes, what affects waiting times, and why demand for housing continues to exceed the number of properties available.
At Maryhill Housing, we currently have more than 9,000 households waiting for a home, while only around 284 properties become available each year. With most of our tenants remaining in their homes, fewer than one in 10 of our properties are available to let in a typical year.
The guide explains that waiting times can vary significantly depending on your circumstances. Factors such as your housing need, the size of home you require, any accessibility requirements, your preferred areas, and how flexible you can be when bidding for properties can all affect how quickly we can make you an offer.
It also highlights the particular challenges facing larger families. Demand for three and four-bedroom homes is very high, but only a small number become available each year, meaning waits for these properties are often longer.
We also explain how we balance a range of responsibilities when allocating homes. More than half of our re-lets help tackle homelessness through Section 5 referrals from Glasgow City Council, while we also consider the needs of applicants on our waiting list and existing tenants seeking transfers.
Our aim is to make the best use of every available home, allocate properties fairly based on housing need and legal duties, and support strong, sustainable communities across Maryhill and Ruchill. We hope this guide helps you better understand how our lettings process works and why waiting times can differ depending on the type of home you need.
