The Association has been notified by Glasgow City Council that they are making changes to the type of bulk waste they are taking at the Dawsholm Recycling Centre. From today, Monday 4th November, they will not be accepting any bulk waste that has domestic seating containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

POPs are found in:

  • Sofas

  • Sofa beds

  • Armchairs

  • Kitchen and Dining Room Chairs

  • Stools and foot stools

  • Home office chairs

  • Futons

  • Bean bags and floor and sofa cushions

  • Electric recliner chairs, and more.

This type of waste will now have to be taken to the Shieldhall Recycling Centre, on the south side of the city.

This requirement will apply to anybody wishing to dispose of this type of waste, including members of the public.

In addition to only being allowed to use Shieldhall for disposing of this type of bulk, we have been limited to one appointment slot per week for our bulk uplift service.

Please be aware that these changes will impact our bulk uplift service for those who receive it.

As we will be limited to one bulk slot per week at Shieldhall, we will prioritise items that can be taken to Dawsholm, which may mean that the items eligible for Shieldhall may experience a delay with the collection due to the limited availability to dispose of these items.

We are exploring ways in which we can limit delays to the collection of items containing POPs given the restricted availability of slots at Shieldhall.

We will have a better idea of the impact of these changes, which are beyond our control, when the new arrangements commence. We will continue to review the bulk service and let you know if we need to make any changes to the service provided.

Thank you for your patience while we look into this matter.
