We are a charitable community-based housing association operating in Maryhill and Ruchill to improve and build, manage and maintain houses.
We are not Glasgow City Council Housing Department nor Communities Scotland, although we do have links with both organisations.
We started in the Eastpark area of Maryhill. From there we spread out to cover other areas: the Burgh Hall area, the Village area, Garrioch and Ruchill. Members of the Management Committee come from all of these areas. (See our leaflet ‘How Can You be Involved?')
Yes. The rules which govern our activities are the charitable community based housing association model rules. These rules are approved by Communities Scotland, who fund and monitor housing associations, and also by the Registrar of Friendly Societies. A copy of these rules is available on request.
We have six key objectives, as follows:
Staff are employed by the Management Committee to cover housing development, management and maintenance, finance, community development and administration.
Many of our houses are tenement flats. When we acquired them many lacked baths, wash hand basins and a hot water supply. Some even had outside toilets. They had poor wiring and plumbing, rising damp and rot. We fitted new bathrooms, windows and floors, fitted kitchens, gas fires, and sometimes double glazed windows and central heating. Common closes and stairwells were tiled and painted and an entry phone system installed for security.
In addition to tenement flats, we have built a number of new homes, mainly flats, terraced, 4 in a block and semi detached.
We house a wide cross section of the community. We provide housing for all sizes of family, sheltered and amenity housing for the elderly, wheelchair users, and a few houses for people with learning difficulties or profound physical handicap.
Our sister organisation, Maryhill Workspace Limited, provides workspaces for local businesses and hopes to expand the provision of these units.
We are currently investigating the feasibility of an adventure playground in Ruchill. And we are working with The Trust to transform Maryhill Burgh Hall for community use.
We have also promoted the creation of a number of Residents' Associations and we provide administrative support to them.
